Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

Schedule: Variable schedule - The ideal candidate must be able to work variable shifts-mornings, afternoons, and evenings and must be available to work on the weekends.

The Job
The Banquet Captain is actively on the floor before, during and after Boise Centre events. Reporting to the Food and Beverage Managers, the Banquet Captain supervises all Banquet Staff in the execution of events that require food and beverage. In this position, one must exercise independent judgement and make multiple decisions quickly while delivering great customer service. The Banquet Captain collaborates with all departments and serves as a liaison between the Client, Event Managers, Kitchen, and Operations to ensure the overall guest experience.


  • Assists the Food and Beverage Managers with overall food service operations during an event
  • Assists banquet staff in proper table set-up, food and beverage service, and clean-up of events
  • Analyzes Banquet Event Orders to plan and assign duties ensuring all preparations are accomplished in a timely manner
  • Creates and maintains a positive culture for the staff during the entire event
  • Conducts Team meetings before and after each event service
  • Interact with clients and guests while delivering outstanding customer service
  • Assists Food & Beverage Managers with training and performance of all Service Staff
  • Holds all Banquet Servers accountable for overall customer service and productivity during events
  • Ensures personal appearance standards are being followed
  • Ensures management know of any employee issues that need to be addressed and provides input into performance evaluations
  • Conducts a final walk through of the building before end of shift and ensures all preparations for the next shift are completed
  • Practices food safety and sanitation in accordance with Boise Centre standards, Local, State, and Federal laws
  • Supports kitchen staff when necessary and assists with food preparation when necessary
  • Performs a variety of related tasks and duties as assigned

Required Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of leadership, or related experience
  • Must have experience serving and/or related experience
  • Three years of customer service or related experience, preferred
  • Alcohol Server Certification for City of Boise

Required Skills

  • Basic knowledge of service standards, guest relations, and food service etiquette
  • Leadership abilities to coach and train banquet staff, be proactive, and approachable
  • Ability to perform multiple functions in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work in a high-stress, high-volume work environment
  • Provides timely and thorough customer service to internal and external customers
  • Ability to work in a team environment and receive feedback and direction
  • Ability to handle time sensitive delivery of services and emergencies
  • Assesses multiple demands and priorities and identifies necessary resources to handle critical work demands
  • Interacts professionally and effectively with others
  • Present a neat, clean and professional, appearance by following established grooming and uniform standards
  • Responsible to be dependable and a self-starter
  • Regular and reliable work attendance at scheduled time on-site
  • Works as a team player, sharing knowledge and skills

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and balance trays with plates of food at shoulder level
  • Ability to perform moderate physical activity and somewhat strenuous daily activities
  • Frequent standing and walking for long periods of time
  • Frequent bending, stopping, kneeling, and twisting
  • Frequent reaching and use of ladders, stools, and stairs
  • Frequent lifting, pushing and pulling up to 50 pounds
  • Exposure to moderate noise levels
  • Ability to work outside of normal business hours
  • Ability to work long hours, weekends, evenings, and holidays
